Journal Four from Tim

So far my active reading is going well. I'm still getting the hang of it, but am much better. Sometimes it's hard to remember to highlight names and places once we move on to highlighting new things. Highlighting important passages in the books are going well because it makes me think about what I'm reading and understanding it rather than just reading it. For today i marked Pg. 30 in the chapter called, There Was an Old Woman She Had So Many Children She Didn't Know What to Do  ".. One day they are playing chicken on Mr. Benny's roof. Mr. Benny says, Hey ain't you kids know better than to be swinging up there? come down right now, and they just spit,"  I chose this passage because it shows how dangerous they are and how they really don't respect elders or anything for that matter.

I prefer the book A Long Way Gone because of the suspense in every chapter. I also really like the story line and the adventures Beah went through. I like how much more detail is in this book as well. It fascinates me how Beah made it through the events that he did. Sometimes it's hard to understand the metaphors in The House on Mango Street.

  2. I agree with you that it hard to remember everything that we need to highlight. What I did is take a Post-It with everything that we are told to mark and keep it in the front of each book. I don't know if that will help you but its an idea.
