After watching “Blood Diamond” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly, and Djiamon Hounsou I begun to understand how it was during the Sierra Leone Civilian War. You get to truly see what it was like to be apart of the war, and what it was like to be a bystander of the war. I highly recommend this adventurous thriller to all of you at home. In the movie you will notice a lot of manipulation. I see this as a theme. A lot of the time when Danny Archer (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) wanted something he would promise, or lie and manipulate them into doing what ever he wanted them to do for him.
This adds to what I already found out in “A Long Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah. In “A Long Way Gone” there is a lot of representation of manipulation during the Sierra Leone Civilian War. For example when Ishmael became a soldier his trainers used drugs and emotional manipulation in order to persuade all the boys to kill. Also after watching “Blood Diamond” I learned how huge of a problem diamond smuggling was in the 90’s. And how people took advantage of the Sierra Leone Civil War to express it.
After visiting and reading a few reviews from MRQE.com over "Blood Diamond" I realized that they too believe that the blood diamonds played a huge role in the civil war. The review that stood out the most to me, and the one I felt was most similar to my opinion of the movie was a review written by Eugene Nabokov called "Blood Diamond". In his review he said something that spoke to me, he said "Where a substance of value is found, the locals die." Because when Solomon found the diamond, a lot of men immediately died after. And a lot more people dies trying to find it and claim it. These diamond killed numerous people unintentionally.

I agree with you that manipulation was a very important theme of the movie.
